Shredded Metal Flake – Wild Reflection & Custom Dimension
Take your custom finish in a completely different direction with Vanderslice Shredded Metal Flake. Unlike traditional uniformly cut metal flake, shredded flake features irregular shapes and sizes that reflect light from different angles, creating a wild, multidirectional sparkle and a highly customized appearance.
The irregular cut gives the finish more visual texture and movement than traditional uniform flake. It’s an excellent choice for custom cars, lowriders, motorcycles, bikes, helmets, artwork, panels and other projects where you want the flake itself to become part of the design.
Why Choose Shredded Flake?
• Irregular Shredded Cut – Random shapes create multidirectional reflections and a distinctive custom appearance.
• High-Impact Sparkle – Designed for painters who want something more aggressive and visually textured than standard uniform flake.
• Customizable Coverage – Apply lightly for scattered highlights or build additional coats for a more dramatic flake effect.
• Versatile Application – Can be applied using a compatible automotive carrier/intercoat or appropriate flake application equipment.
• Made for Custom Finishes – Excellent for automotive finishes, motorcycles, lowrider bikes, helmets, artwork and specialty projects.
How to Apply
- Apply your desired basecoat and allow it to flash according to the paint system being used.
- Mix Shredded Flake into a compatible intercoat, clear binder or carrier.
- Stir thoroughly and periodically during application to help keep the flake evenly suspended.
- Spray light, even coats and gradually build to your desired coverage.
- Allow proper flash time between coats.
- Finish with sufficient automotive clearcoat to fully bury and protect the flake.
- Wet sand and polish as necessary for a smooth, show-quality finish.
PRO TIP: Because shredded flake contains irregularly shaped particles, always make sure your spray equipment is appropriate for the flake being applied. Test your complete basecoat, flake and clearcoat combination on a sample panel before spraying your final project.
REGULAR FLAKE VS. SHREDDED FLAKE
Regular Metal Flake: Uniform particle shapes create a more consistent, traditional sparkle pattern.
Shredded Metal Flake: Irregular particle shapes create more random reflections, visual texture and multidirectional flash.
Neither is necessarily “better”—they create two completely different custom effects.
